View Full Version : How do you operate a business?
I am very new to the subject of Rickshaw but already very interested to develop a business in Europe. I don't understand how some operators can price at 1 or 2 Euros per Km flat plus optional tip for the driver. The operator has to pay his staff. I don't believe the advertising income can be more than the cost of the rickshaw plus labor costs. Can you help me understand the business basics? I must be wrong somewhere but I don't see where. How many Km is a pedicab doing per hour in Spain or in London? Is the distance a good index for the price? Any experienced guy able to help me?

Hi Momo,
in most cases the drivers are self employed and they keep what they earn. The operator do not pay any salary in the most companies. Sometimes the drivers charge the fare the company marks, in other countries (USA) the ride often clients for "free" - the clients pay tips instead of a regular fare.
There are different systems to charge.
In Barcelona we charge 18 Euros for an one hour trip, 10 Euros for 30 minutes or 1,50 Euros for 1 kilometer.
The drivers pay a renting fee to the operator. Another income for the operators are:
- Advertisement (Velotaxi (http://www.velotaxi.com)is based in advertisement. Small rental fee for drivers). Other companies have higher rental fees and less advertisment.
- Events like Shuttle-Service etc.
- Weddings etc.
Hope this answers your question.
Gerald,
Thank you for your quick answer. This is crystal clear and very helpfull.
