I tried this business out last year during the summer with some cheap heavy junky although pretty nice looking pedicabs. It did not fair as well as hoped. Mainly due to the fact after like 7 rides i could barely walk and my riders all bailed due to the same reason and not a steady income.
However this year I have received my Real Estate Salesperson license and am trying to advertise for myself instead of others. What I am curious about is the following, and some options
I thought building a type of stage coach but with a electric assist motor or gas ( Gas is not allowed with previous insurance) THis would allow a huge advertiseing space yet look classy and hold quite a few people but even with teh power asist not sure if it woudl still run into the problme of way to much effort as with extra people and carriage probally around 1300 ibs. This would also be bulky and could not go in bike lane.
I though about using my current cheap ones that look decent but the problem once again is jsut extremely hard to peddle but with peddle assist should not be bad. These are only 2 seaters and pretty standard asian type design with a canopy. Problme with this is then i woudl have to insure 2 to have the same advertiseing and capacity of the stage coach idea.
It is important to note I am not really trying to make money with the rides but the business generated from advertiseing. Not to mention i already have 2 that are just sitting around. So i could be 2 places at once with the smaller more mobile ones and probally get more exposure but not so impacting. The downfall there is the $130 more a month I will have to pay to insure another one. So basically around $250 for insurance on the 2 or 125 for 1 big one. If I were to do it for riding i would go big and transport more in a nicer rig for less cost monthly as the cost will be paid off in a year or so.
Now I will note there is a Kalmonson insurance that has a set price type thing but not a great policy but i can put alot fo cabs on that for the same cost but they require prints and stuff to insure and i dont know how i can do that wihtout building it and i sure done have a engineering degree to back it up. However teh ones i have currently are mass produced and the only mod would be the electric assist.
I also need to have enough business to have my riders be happy to actually ride however and not sure if the 2 will cut it although I made pretty good money while riding after a few hours you are on your death bed but with pedal assist i am curious if that will solve that problem.
Just kind of runing ideas by you guys. Let me know what you think the pros and cons and basically what seems like the best idea for this.
