All,

I am trying to start my own Pedicab business however after initial approach to the council - they currently do not allow pedicabs to have hackney carriage licence due to no wheelchair access and various other things.

Could anyone offer any advise as to how best to approach tackling the licencing issue? Could anyone get in touch who has been successful overcoming council rules etc. Or anyone who has tried and been unsuccessful? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Dan

The wheel chair accses problem is not actually law it is council policy and therfore can be changed to allow them to grant you the licence. You will have to have the bikes tested twice a year if you e-mail me i will send you a copy of the testing regime we had to follow. A code of conduct is a good thing to take with you. As you are asking for a hackney carriage licence they will require £5m liabilaty insurance which you may find difficult to find i can put you in contact with someone who will provide this but it ant cheap at around £1000 per year. My e-mail is carl.rhodes@tiscali.co.uk
I was granted a hackney carriage licence by East Lindsey District Council and you could ask your local council to take a look at this for you. Hope this has been some help.
