Beginning Friday, April 29, Thomas Woods, owner and sole operator of The Buffalo Bike Taxi Co., is offering a bike taxi service in downtown Buffalo, adding to the many other fun things there are to do in the neighborhood of the baseball park, Buffalo harbor marina, the theater district, and the Chippewa Street entertainment district. Thomas is also offering historical tours of downtown Buffalo’s fine architecture.

“Buffalo is the kind of town where people take advantage of the summer months to have as much outdoor fun they can,” Thomas explains. “I love riding my bike, so a bike taxi makes sense for me on many levels. All the tourist cities have bike taxis, and here in Buffalo, there’s a saying that we’re tourists in our own back yard.”

The Buffalo Bike Taxi Co. is not meant to compete with other forms of public transportation. “This is about a fun way to get around downtown,” Thomas insists. “I can get you from wherever your car is parked to whatever downtown fun you’re doing, and you’ll enjoy the trip.” The bike taxi is essentially a big tricycle, with a wide, comfortable seat for two over the back wheels and the driver pedaling in front. The Buffalo Bike Taxi Co. has a convertible top that can be raised to afford shelter from the weather.

One event Thomas plans to be at every week is the Thursday at the Square concert series. “If no one needs a ride, I’ll still get to see a lot of bands,” he says. In addition, The Buffalo Bike Taxi Co. will provide rides for guests of downtown hotels to many of the cultural and entertaining activities there are downtown.

Woods, who is enjoying his mid-thirties, says that he won’t have a taxi meter on his bike taxi, but will accept tips from passengers. “I’m not planning to quit my day job, but this is a hobby that will pay for itself eventually,” he adds. By day, Thomas works for D’Youville College (http://www.dyc.edu/), to which he frequently rides his bike instead of driving to work.

To get a ride from Thomas, hail his bright yellow bike taxi any Thursday or Friday evening, Saturday day and evening, and Sunday afternoons, or call 563-9325 for a pickup or to arrange for an architectural tour. The Buffalo Bike Taxi Co. is also available for community and corporate events for an hourly rate.

For more information, browse the web site at www.BuffaloBikeTaxi.com, or call Thomas at 563-9325 or send an email to Thomas@BuffaloBikeTaxi.com. Mr. Woods and the bike taxi are available for interviews and photographs.

Hi dude,
great site, wish you lots of luck & hope that you manage to grow the business. Great choices of Pedicab, have a little mainstreet too & they are great (just like a normal bike). I use to work as a manager in a bank (now 3.5 years ago) & have not looked back (well maybe in the winter:D ).

So party on!
