View Full Version : London rider sufferes aneurysm during ride
In the week just past, a young rider wilts working on the pedicab, collapsed during a ride to Russell Sq with passengers. His passengers thought that he had just fainted & tried to revive him but were unable to do so, after this they phoned for an ambulance.
Once the ambulance arrived they suspected the worst & rushed him to the Neurological hospital in London, were it was confirmed that he had had a mayor ruptured of an archery in his brain (aneurysm). He was minutes from death but thanks to some very fast & skilled intervention survived.
He has made nearly a full recovery but will still be stuck in the UK for another 6 month. A third intervention will need to be done in two months time & he will need a very long recovery period. Due to the nature of his stay in the UK as a student, he is in desperate need of financial help.
So far £600 have been raised by riders in London which will see him through this month. Help or donations are most welcome from the industry in general. Please email or contact his close friend Luis at luistovar25@yahoo.com with your donations.
It is at this point that I would like to encourage most of you who ride or plan to ride, to consider spending a small amount of your income on health insurance each month, as when the worst happens you may seriously need to reconsider your future. When you work in this line, the strain on the body can be quite extreme & some consideration should be given to this & your future.

How horrible! It is rare to survive this sort of thing, I have known 5 people to have this, 2 are living today.
If something is posted I am sure the other riders will help contribute. I plan to send something via PayPal, I am hoping that is the most expedient way.
This is what I’m telling everybody.
Try to work 4 days a week only. Not more than 6 hours a day.
Last week I learned that one driver can’t do it always because of neck problem because of pedicabing.
When you don't have passengers, walk your pedicab sometimes.
Practice another sport, like soccer or tennis.
Many pedicabs drivers don’t realize that they don’t walk a lot because we go the garage on our regular bike and take the Pedicab. After we finish pedicabing, we park the Pedicab and bike back home. If you think about it. We don’t walk at all during our working days.

I agree, some cross-training or other activity is required. I walk a bit and try to swim when I can.

I have heard he is "stable" but still in hospital, he has one more operation to go. if all goes well he will be home in 4-5 months.
