I was in BOG last Oct and a bit of Nov. and did not see any. Bog aint the place I would want to be walking about with any real money at night, its a fun place but a bit on the ill side. I spent more than a few nights listening to other travellers tell stories of how they got robbed, mostly at night. Running in BOG would be foolhardy IMHO, that said, I met a guy in Harare (Thats in Zim) who wanted to import a bunch of pedicabs and start up in Harare. How a bunch of malnourshed Africans would manage on those things is beond me.
Well, I know a few of the many riders in London are from Bogota & many will head home with the lights of london pedicabing still in there eyes. I think local knowledge is every thing & once you have a bunch of them, things will get better. A friend of mein is doing Pedicab company 'BEN' in Namibia & under nurishment aint as commen as you think (though just wait till they get McD XXL!:D ). Thing is that it does give a cheap local transportation system & ontop provides a living for a group of people who other wise might not have such a great start in life.
Just imagen being able to offer a transportation service with out the need for petrol, just food (stuff you have to eat any way!). I know which option I'd go for even if I have to do the lift for a bunch of home grown chickens, just you wait when Oil run dry!!!!:D
