New York Bike Tours to Offer Exclusive Tours of the Long Awaited “The Gates” Exhibit by Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
Specialty pedicab service offers tours of "The Gates" exhibit in Central Park from Febuary 12 - 27, 2005. The Gates has been 25 years in development and over 20 million has been invested. All materials will be recycled at the end of the exhibit.
(PRWEB) January 19, 2005 -- Celebrated artists, Christo and Jeanne-Claude will unveil The Gates, Project for Central Park. In the making for a quarter century, will officially open on February 12th (Weather permitting!). On view for only 16 days, the 7,500 gates will transform Central Park by following the edges of 23 miles of walkways and footpaths from 59th street to 110th street. Saffron-colored fabric panels, varying in width from 5 ½ feet to 18 feet, will hang seven feet above the ground, blowing in the wind and delighting the public walking beneath with a warm glow of translucent color. The gates will seem like a golden river appearing and disappearing through the bare branches of the trees.
The Gates will be Christo and Jeanne-Claude's first major project in New York City. Using a variety of fabrics, the artists have created entire environments that allow the viewer to experience a landscape or building in a completely new way. In Central Park, The Gates will be spaced at 10 to 15 foot intervals, allowing the synthetic woven panels to wave horizontally toward the next gate, reinforcing the design of the Park's winding paths. They will be seen from far away through the leafless branches of the trees, forming a golden ceiling and creating warm shadows. No holes will be dug, and there will be no environmental impact: The Gates will not be installed in ecologically sensitive natural areas such as the Ramble and North Woods.
New York Bike Tours, a specialty pedicab service will offer exclusive tours of “The Gates” in Central Park. If you are unfamiliar with pedicabs, they are the modern day rickshaws that have been cruising Manhattan for nearly 10 years. Pedicabs seat two people comfortably and are reserved with a friendly and informative driver, who will be your personal tour guide. There will be two tours to choose from: a 30 minute tour in the southern area, or a 70 minute tour covering the entire park. “The Gates” tour prices are $50 or $110 for two people depending on which tour you prefer.
This extraordinary sight, the latest work by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, will be exhibited in Central Park from February 12-27. Book your tour today. Call 917.696.9202 and ask about “The Central Park Gates Tour.”
