Is the trike a copy from Asia? You say it is battery assisted - does the battery assist the headlights or is there a motor in the ped? If it does have a motor what is the Wattage? How old is the trike? Will it be able to go up a hill with people in the back?

Default Velotaxi world champion vouches for Melbourne CC1

    Hi,

i can totally vouch for the CC1 in Melbourne. I rode them when i was down there in 2008. The motor (provided you get an additional battery pack) is strong enough to go around the hilly CBD and even all the way to St Kilda.

best of luck from Berlin, Till

Not a copy - original from Velform Germany. Motor powers the trike's electrics and assists the driver in those "awkward places" (exceptionally hilly terrain, etc). Understand the motor's power rating to be 200W or more. Purchased 2006 [but used probably less than 6 months per year since then]. Primary uses have been advertising and passenger carriage [tourists].

I agree with Tillstar. I bought my first CityCruiser 1 from Veloform ten years ago and it is still on the road. Every day.

For me it's a real Audi, BWM, Mercedes. Very good quality. The motor is from Heinzmann 250 Watts usually...

Veloform's quality is so good, that I had not the need in 10 years to renew the fleet...of course, we do regular maintenance of the pedicabs...but this happens to everything: Take care of your bike and you will enjoy it during a long time.

In ten years just few problems. The first we bought 10 years ago....the newest are operating since 5 years....and still money-make-machines in good conditions.

Veloform is for me a TOP provider / manufacturer.

Thanks for your good words Gerald - you are right - these trikes are well made - and the Shimano kit means most 'bike' parts are readily available.

BTW - we were in Barcelona this time last year & saw you trikes operating - missed them in Madrid. Do you have any in Malaga - we saw some there as well?

Next time say hello when you are in town :-)

Madrid: Trouble with the city council...they do not allow pedicabs :-( - but we do bike tours, bike rental etc...started with a shop in 2007...

Malaga: It's my compañero Vladimir: http://tricosol.com/ and independent operation. Great guy.

Hey tillstar i was a bike messenger in melbourne in 2008 for 8months and there was not a single pedicab on the streets. There was however a campaign organised by Pedapod in Sydney for cascade green lager that rode in Nov in Melbourne. I rode the CC1 in Melbourne for that campaign. I have also been a bike messenger in San Francisco - there was no way I could get the trike up Collins street with people in not a chance also St. Kilda is 8Km away and the Peds never ever ever went that far. Melbourne is all wrong for pedicabbing with trams, horse n carts n Swanson st (the main road a steep incline) Sorry bro I think the CC1 is a great trike for advertising on. I have a fleet of maximus that operates in Sydney and I have run maxis and mainstreets in Auckland both equally hilly cities. The CC1s here in Sydney with 500w motors struggle to keep up with our mark1 manual maximus with 3 fatties in - honestly. Thats all I want to say.

Default must've missed me (on account of bein too fast)

    Sorry bro yourself

I was there with a collegue whom id met while working in Copenhagen. He went there in november 07 and i joined him round NYE, we stayed until end of march 08. We were working night shifts only and where always met with great enthusiasm by the locals and tourists.
I gotta say though, we were kind of lacking a critical mass as we were only two guys (Spiro a guy from Geelong came in every other weekend) operating 2 out of the seven or eight bikes in the garage.

I will now adress your false accusations of me never having been able to get up the hills of Collins or Russel St
I personally took up to four (!) people up Bourke, Collins and Russel St. The motor was fine with two people, with four it was challenging (but they gave me a 30$ tip after a 400m/3min ride). People loved the City Cruisers and seemed altogether unfamiliar with pedicabs as in general calling it a TukTuk (the Indian cabbies admired us too btw).
We had a great time during the Australian Open 08, not so much during the F1 Grand Prix.
I'm the last person to say that the CC1 is among the fastest bikes out there, its not (more to pimping it later) but thats not really the question here is it.

I don't think like i have to tell people here that for the customers riding in a pedicab is about getting from a to b most efficiently, but i personally went all the way to the far back of Northcote at 5am on my birthday (great tip here also) and twice to the Espi in St Kilda. So please don't tell me i can't be done.
Melbourne for us was hanging out at Swanston/Bourke or the Southbank Prom taking rides to the Casino, Kings Street or Board Room in Southbank...
We made round 800$/week working thu, fri, sat night (6-8h each).

Maybe it helps to avert confusion if i add that we went through as many as three battery packs per night. But stronger batteries are not really a problem. They can be fitted onto the chassis if you carve out some of the plastic (don't start unless you know what you're doing). I'm not gonna start about pimping the Heinzmann motor to 36V and things like that...

Anyway, all i wanna say is: Melbourne can be done on the CC1s being offered here

    Cheers, Till

oh, and check me out doing 300m in under 40 seconds WITHOUT the motor
