Hello from Australia
G'day all,
I am considering the prospect of establishing a pedicab business in Australia, hence the reason I have joined this forum.
Pedicabs appear to be quite widely used in other parts of the world, though the opposite seems to be true of them here in Australia, where few exist.
The initial capital outlay for starting a small pedicab business is of course a major consideration. Importing a suitable bike to Australia seems quite costly.
I wonder what some of the more experienced people on here would think of the price of these trikes offered for sale on Ebay?
BTW - this is not my ad - in case anyone thinks I am plugging the sale of these bikes! ;-)

What are these particular bikes like? Is that a reasonable price? Is it worth my while to consider having a talk with a local bike shop to see if they are able to modify an existing bike?
Thank you.
Regards,
Damo

Looks like a Mainstreet Classic. 2000 for 2 rickshaws is a great deal provided the seller is not a guy who posts as idrss. Here is a link to there site
www.pedicab.com
I use a non electrically assisted 3 seater in London and I think they are great. What ever you do dont buy any of the cheap made in China bikes that are out there, furthermore dont get any cabs from the likes of Tartan rickshaw in Scotland who buy cheap made in China bikes, tweak them a bit and charge double for the same shitty cheap made in China bikes. What are these particular bikes like?My life is a complicated drinkin game.

How utterly gay looking indeed and I aint sayin that cuz it has electrical assist though it has a female driver so I can see how electric assist might be needed.

i like pedapod and unreseservedly withdraw my previous negative comments
actually im getting used to the pedapod- apart from its appearance- Im starting to like it (sorry if my operator read my previous comments)-its a nice change- at least for a while. Its comfortable- takes the weight off my knees. as for electric assist is for wimps- in flat places like london yes- it would be impossible to do it by pedal power alone in this very hilly city.

Mais qui but Edinburgh is tiny. sydney is comparitive in size to london or Los Angeles. the trip to Bondi alone (6-8km) is longer than any distance in the whole of Edinburgh. remember I went out to chiswick in a velocab with 3 fat canadian customers so its not coming from a wimp and I did zone 2 most weekends. here distances people request are much longer than we ususally go even in london nevermind Edinburgh.
unassisted bikes are in the dark ages - you cant do long distance

You mentioned hills in Sydney as an excuse for needing an electric powered bike and I mentioned the lads in Edinburgh do just fine with out. If a bunch of Scottish guys can do it so can you, its all about fitness and conditioning for your job.
I hope you charged them lots.remember I went out to chiswick in a velocab with 3 fat canadian customers
Its called old skool.unassisted bikes are in the dark ages
I used to run with up to 4 and sometimes more people in an old old skool rickshaw, fitness and conditioning dude, fitness and conditioning.you cant do long distance
