Default Extra Motor on a Pedicab to climb bigger hills?

So even though I live in my area, I never realized how hilly it was until I bought some Pedicabs. (Will not be delivered until Oct. 29)

And I am thinking that if I installed an extra electric motor in the front hub, maybe I will be able to get up hills better.

Unfortunately, this is just a guess and was wanting to get the opinion of you guys that have WAY more experience than I do.

So the bike I bought was from Cyclopolitain which uses the typical Japanese motor that powers the chain type of electric assist (not sure what this is called). I was told that an unloaded bike, will be able to climb up to an 8% grade.

My issue is that even though where I am working is flat-ish (up to abo a 5% grade), I cant find a place to work out of in the area and am thinking of parking at my apartment, but in order to do that I need to be able to climb a 17.5% grade.

My question: If I add a hub motor to the front wheel, would using both motors at the same time allow me to climb such a steep incline?

Also, what hub motor would people suggest for this?

I found this : http://www.falconev.com/E-Bikes.html (Green Hornet) but I have no clue if this is a good motor or not...

Any opinion would be appreciated!! (as I feel lost in decisions I have no exp. with...)

    Thanks!

Oh I forgot this bit of info. The Cyclopolitain pedicab weighs 120kg plus whatever the extra motor and battery weighs...

Apparently that is the best you can do. "you need electric assist"! Ooooooo that is such a put down! Because, as everyone knows, the entire earth is flat.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrily maaaaaaaaaaan! Cant cycle up a hill? Sounds like another pussified man, but hey, your a newbie so perhaps one day you might get in shape but I have my doubts.
I dunno whats worse, a fella who needs an electric engine to make his shaw go, or the pathetic little pukes who buy cheap made in Asia knock off rickshaws like the ones produced in China and Turkey.
Do try and unknot them knickers for yours Joey.

Dude, you’re just a pompous assuming s**hole. I know your type. Always assuming you know everything. Always assuming you’re right, and everyone else is wrong. You know nothing about my business, so don’t pretend to. You have no idea who my drivers are. You have no idea about the terrain we are pedaling on. And whoever said my bikes are “Asian knock offs” is an idiot. All you are is a blow-hard trying to be cool in front of your "piers" by making fun of a "newbie" because you're a “senior member”. And “grily man”?? I mean seriously, WTF? Is that a man who likes to grill? Anyway, good luck on getting over the “bully” phase of puberty.

    Default Electric Assist

Ay you old Canadian twat leave newbie alone. I've had a few riders come to ride for me from London in Sydney and Auckland who said that you boys ride for 3 minutes and demand 20quid, or you hang about brothels trying to score half the payment of the punters - not really the atheltics of pedicabbing. London is flat - there is no need for motors.

Cities that have hills in motor pedicabs can do better simple as. I had a fella come work for me who said that none of you london boys would be able to ride in Sydney with the exception of 1 or 2 (JamesC?).

I dont think hes asking if its gay or not he is asking for some technical advice - dude go hang outside a brothel.

As regards to your problem, I think you will only compound it by adding another motor and a battery pack that will weigh the same as a car battery - 20kg. The return will not be justified. To get up your hill on your return to base empty you should probably push the beasty or invest in a trailer to get them back to base. Location is really important in pedicabbing. The closer you are to your punters, the easier everything is. In Sydney I was in the CBD and the velocabs were way out in the hills, it would take them an hour to get in and out of town, nightmare for breakdowns and knackering for drivers.

If you get in the middle of things you will make more money and have less stress. I dont recommend adding another 50kg motor to solve the problem - just keep those chains and knees lubed. Ask cyclepath for the lube!
